NEW SIGHT CLINIC

Geyser Hahn Architects’ and Boogertman + Partners' collaborative project in Ouesso, Congo, the New Sight Centre has been awarded an international silver medal at the A'Design Awards Competition.

New Sight is a pioneer in the Republic of Congo, delivering comprehensive non-profit eye services to one of the most impoverished and underserved areas of the world. By restoring sight, New Sight brings hope and transformation to the lives of patients and their families.

The purpose of the project is to open a New Sight non-profit eye hospital in Ouesso as a primary hub of future operations, serving the surrounding La Sangha region and wider Republic of Congo, and to empower nationals to continue running the New Sight non-profit eye hospital in Impfondo with increasing independence.

The project delivers architecture that inspires, gives responsibility and empowers the sensory impaired. A space that allows for the users to take ownership of their environment. Inclusive design promotes integration and interaction within society. Re-thinking the institutional typology encouraging an empathetic approach to the experience of the blind and vision impaired users. Within the spaces one should strive to activate memory through the senses to enable a navigation system.
